The symposium invited high school students, undergraduate students, students in graduate schools, researchers and practitioners to discuss how to educate future leaders in disaster risk reduction from the view point of global safety. Practices in the current educational program were shared in the symposium. Five program participated in the symposium;

  • Inter-Graduate School Program for Sustainable Development and Survivable Societies,Kyoto University
  • Phoenix Leader Education Program (Hiroshima Initiative) for Renaissance from Radiation Disaster, Hiroshima University
  • Disaster Nursing Global Leader Degree Program, University of Kochi (Host University)
  • Inter-Graduate School Doctoral Degree Program on Science for Global Safety, Tohoku University
  • Exploring Germination and Growth Program for Young Scientists, Tohoku University

Taking into consideration with various programs and stakeholders, networks of educational efforts for disaster risk reduction in Japan should be strengthened. Also, sustainability of these efforts should be financed and maintained.
